Our recycling initiatives At the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, recycling is more than just a practice: it's a promise to respect and protect the environment that surrounds us, for today and for tomorrow.
Clean up day
Every year, with the arrival of spring, the Manoir Richelieu teams and guests get together to organise a major clean-up. This event brings everyone together with the aim of keeping our magnificent manor clean and in harmony with the environment.
Waste sorting
At Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, we take a proactive and responsible approach to waste management, implementing a rigorous sorting system. This involves separating and recycling recyclable materials, composting organic waste and ensuring that hazardous waste is handled in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. This is part of our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint, promoting sustainability and encouraging environmental awareness among our staff and customers.
The recycling of our Nespresso capsules
At the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, we have set up a specific recycling initiative for our coffee capsules, in partnership with Nespresso. Used capsules are collected and sent to a specialised sorting centre, where they undergo a meticulous recycling process. This process involves separating the coffee grounds from the aluminium. The aluminium, which can be recycled ad infinitum without any loss of quality, is recovered and reintroduced into the production chain. As for the coffee grounds, they are recovered as compost, offering a useful second life as an organic soil improver.
Clean the world
We have formed a partnership with Clean the World, a social enterprise dedicated to reducing hotel waste by recycling partially used hygiene products. This collaboration enables us to collect used soap from our establishment, which we then remelt to create new bars of soap. This process not only helps to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, but also plays a crucial role in the fight against pollution. In addition, Clean the World channels these efforts into a humanitarian cause, distributing the recycled soaps through The WASH Foundation to NGOs around the world.
Recovering materials
The technical team at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu excels in innovation and creativity when it comes to recycling materials and packaging. One of our emblematic initiatives includes the transformation of burlap bags, which were used to transport coffee, into unique decorative frames for our Café Bellerive. This illustrates our commitment to sustainability, giving new life to materials otherwise considered waste, while enriching the aesthetics of our spaces. These frames, full of history and character, not only contribute to the warm ambience of our café, but also demonstrate our philosophy of reuse and respect for the environment.
Call2Recycle
Our used batteries are collected and sent to the Canadian organization Call2Recycle. There, they are recycled in a safe and eco-friendly way, recovering valuable materials such as nickel and iron. These metals are then repurposed to create new products, supporting more sustainable resource use.
